“Melissa Clarke-Wharff, founder of Courage League Sports, is being honored today with an official Mayoral Commendation.

Urbandale-based Courage League Sports is a nonprofit adaptive sports and recreational facility that offers year-round programming for children and adults.

With a slogan of “every child deserves to play,” Courage League Sports provides adaptive sports programs appropriate to a range of disability levels, including physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities.

The organization was founded in 2013 and now serves more than 1,000 kids and 500 adults on a monthly basis.

Melissa was recently honored as an Everyday Hero by espnW as her vision and efforts garner national attention.

We are honored to have Courage League Sports here in Urbandale, and proud of the amazing work that Melissa is doing for our community and the region.

It is my honor to present the first-ever Mayoral Commendation to Melissa Clark-Wharff in recognition of her vision and dedication to provide opportunities for people of all abilities to play sports.”
